HOW TO CAPE A DEER FOR MOUNTING

WATERFOWL FIELD PREP

PLEASE ALWAYS PICK UP WATERFOWL BY THE FEET (OR CRADLE) AS SHOWN IN THIS PICTURE. WHEN CARRYING FROM THE FIELD,  IT IS BEST TO PUT IN A BAG (OR CRADLE) AND BE GENTLE AS POSSIBLE SO NO FEATHERS WILL BE RUFFLED.

NEVER PICK UP OR CARRY A DUCK BY THE NECK AS SHOWN IN THIS PICTURE.

IMPORTANT:  DO NOT CUT IN THE WHITE ON THE LEGS AND ARMPITS.

Proceed skinning down neck (leave 3-4 inches of neck for good measurements). Cut the head off there and do NOT leave more of the neck than the requested 3-4 inches.

If not bringing to taxidermist immediately, put in freezer. If no freezer available, put in plastic bag with ice surrounding it. Keep as dry as possible. Bring to your taxidermist as soon as possible or put in home freezer. Freezing will stop the bacteria from growing.

WHEN FREEZING A DUCK, PLEASE PLACE THE HEAD LIKE PICTURE ABOVE AND WRAP IN PLASTIC (SUCH AS GROCERY BAGS OR SARAN \WRAP) SEVERAL TIMES. NEVER USE NEWSPAPER OR PANTY HOSE. PANTY HOSE IS FOR FIELD PREP ONLY (BUT PLASTIC BAGS ARE BETTER).
